Four Arrested in Panchkula Cyber Fraud Case, Victim Duped of ₹16.3 Lakh

Panchkula, Haryana: In a major cybercrime bust, four people have been arrested for allegedly cheating a resident of Panchkula out of ₹16.3 lakh, police said, as authorities step up efforts to crack down on online fraud. According to the Panchkula Cyber Crime Police, the suspects were identified following a complaint by a local resident who reported that unknown fraudsters had duped him of a substantial amount through online deception schemes. Investigators traced digital trails and communication links that ultimately led to the arrest of the accused, who are now being questioned as the probe continues. Authorities have assured residents that the investigation is ongoing and urged anyone who may have been contacted by the accused or has additional information to come forward. They also advised citizens to exercise caution when dealing with unfamiliar online profiles, unsolicited messages and requests for money or personal financial details.

Road Rage Turns Deadly in Panchkula: Youth Shot Dead After Heated Altercation

Panchkula, Haryana: A 30-year-old man was shot dead late Sunday night in a road rage incident in the Dhakoli area of Panchkula, police said, as tensions boiled over between two drivers during a dispute that reportedly began over “staring” at each other on the road. According to the Dhakoli police, the victim, identified as Prince, ran a mobile phone shop in Sector 26 and was related to a man who was also injured in the incident. The confrontation began around 11:45 pm when Bharat Bhushan (42) was driving his Toyota Fortuner home from Sector 28 and was stopped abruptly by another car near Balaji Tower that overtook and blocked him. Bhushan got out of his vehicle to inquire about the situation, and what began as a misunderstanding escalated quickly. Police said the other driver, Kuldeep, reacted angrily, slapped Bhushan and then fired a shot near his leg with a licensed pistol — narrowly missing the injury at first. When the commotion attracted attention, Kuldeep fled the scene. Prince, Bhushan’s relative, joined him and others in trying to locate Kuldeep nearby. When the accused spotted them approaching, the police said he opened fire again in a vacant plot, injuring both Prince and Bhushan. Prince was declared brought dead at a private hospital in Panchkula, while Bhushan sustained injuries and is reported to be in stable condition. The Dhakoli police registered a case against Kuldeep under charges including murder and attempt to murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and various offences under the Arms Act. An intensive manhunt led to Kuldeep’s arrest by Mohali police within six hours of the crime, with the licensed **.32-bore revolver and empty cartridges recovered from his possession. Police officials say they are also initiating proceedings to cancel his firearm licence as part of the investigation. Senior police officers in Panchkula said the quick arrest was due to coordinated efforts between multiple teams, checkpoint deployments and technical surveillance, and assured that strict legal action will be taken.

Panchkula, Haryana / Chandigarh: Police teams have arrested three suspected drug peddlers in coordinated anti-narcotics operations in the Tricity area, including a significant seizure in Panchkula, marking a continued effort by law enforcement to curb the distribution of illegal drugs. In Chandigarh, officers from the Sector 31 police station arrested two young men during a routine patrol near the Sector 31 petrol pump on February 18. Authorities recovered a total of 15 grams of heroin from their possession, with 10 g found on Vivek and 5 g on Vipanshu. Neither could produce a licence or permit for the contraband, leading to their arrest under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. In a separate case in Panchkula, the Crime Branch team of the Sector 19 police arrested a man during a special anti-narcotics operation in the Sector 20 fruit market area on the evening of February 14. Acting on a tip-off that a drug deal was underway near the cremation ground, officers raided the location and seized 27.13 grams of heroin from the suspect, identified as Shiv Kumar alias Kunglu. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at the Sector 20 police station, and the accused was remanded to judicial custody for further proceedings. Both operations highlight the ongoing efforts by Chandigarh and Panchkula police to disrupt drug distribution networks in the region. Officials said further investigations are underway to trace the sources of the narcotics and identify any broader supply chains linked to the arrested individuals. Local residents and community groups have welcomed the crackdown, saying frequent police action is needed to tackle the drug menace affecting urban and suburban areas alike. With law-and-order agencies stepping up patrols and intelligence-led raids, authorities hope to strengthen deterrence and ensure safer neighbourhoods across Panchkula and Chandigarh.

Organisers have confirmed that the inaugural edition of the event has been shifted to Bengaluru, drawing reactions from local sports fans and athletics enthusiasts. Originally scheduled to take place on May 24, 2025 at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula — the same venue where Chopra trained early in his career — the event was moved following concerns raised by World Athletics regarding infrastructure and technical requirements, particularly stadium lighting that did not meet minimum broadcast standards. Opposition Targets Haryana Government Over Power Tariff Hike; Protests in Panchkula

Panchkula, Haryana: Political tensions in the state have heightened following a power tariff revision introduced by the Haryana government, with opposition parties sharply criticising the move and staging protests — including one outside a power utilities office in Panchkula. The revision in electricity charges, the first since 2018, has sparked debate across political circles. While the government maintains that the new tariff structure will not significantly impact most domestic consumers, opposition leaders claim the increase will burden residents and businesses. In Panchkula, members of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) held a demonstration outside the power utilities’ headquarters to protest what they described as an “unfair hike” in power costs. Organisers accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state government of imposing higher electricity rates without adequate public consultation — a charge rejected by official sources. Local political activists have highlighted concerns that increased tariffs could affect small business owners and residents who consume commercial quantities of electricity, intensifying pressure on households already managing rising living costs. This has triggered calls from community groups for clearer explanations and possible relief measures from the authorities. State government officials have defended the revision, saying the adjustment was necessary to balance the finances of power utilities and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across Haryana. They also emphasised that most residential consumers will see only modest changes under the new tariff regime. Political analysts note this dispute comes at a time of broader political contestation in Haryana, as opposition parties seek to capitalise on policy disagreements to challenge the BJP government ahead of upcoming local and state elections. As the debate over power tariffs continues, residents in Panchkula and elsewhere in the state are closely watching developments, with many urging dialogue between citizens, consumer bodies and elected representatives to address public concerns around electricity pricing.

Congress Protests, Gheraoes BJP Offices in Chandigarh and Panchkula Over National Herald Case

Panchkula, Haryana: In a major political demonstration on Tuesday, workers and leaders of the Indian National Congress staged protests outside Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) offices in both Chandigarh and Panchkula, accusing the ruling party of political vendetta in the ongoing National Herald case. The protest was led by senior Congress leaders and local party workers who gathered outside BJP offices, demanding what they termed justice and transparency in the high-profile case involving the National Herald newspaper and Associated Journals Ltd. (AJL). The National Herald case, which has drawn political attention nationwide, centres on allegations related to the transfer and alleged misuse of party-linked assets — including land in Panchkula — and the subsequent investigations by central agencies. Addressing the crowd, Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee President H.S. Lucky criticised the BJP government, alleging that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and other enforcement agencies are being used under pressure from the Prime Minister and Home Minister to target opposition leaders unfairly. He accused the BJP of weaponising legal processes to tarnish the reputation of Congress leadership and divert public attention from governance issues. Demonstrators carried banners and chanted slogans outside the party offices, emphasising that the protest was a peaceful demonstration of dissent against what they called selective political targeting in the National Herald proceedings. The demonstration in Panchkula drew several local workers and supporters, highlighting the strong reaction among the opposition rank and file in the region. Political observers say the protests underscore the heightened political tension ahead of upcoming civic and state polls, and the deepening divide between the BJP and Congress over issues of accountability and the role of investigative agencies in political matters. Meanwhile, authorities monitored the protests to ensure they remained peaceful, with no major law-and-order disruptions reported from either Chandigarh or Panchkula during the demonstrations.

Ward Delimitation Stirs Political Activity Ahead of Panchkula Municipal Elections

Panchkula, Haryana: The proposed ward delimitation process for the upcoming Panchkula Municipal Corporation elections has set off active political manoeuvring and debate among local leaders and parties, even before the official poll dates are announced. Under the new delimitation plan, the boundaries and composition of the existing municipal wards are being revised in anticipation of the civic polls. Although the total number of wards in the Panchkula Municipal Corporation remains unchanged, the redistributing of local areas across these wards has drawn reactions from various political circles, with leaders now busy realigning their strategies in response to the changes. Several local party representatives and prospective candidates have been seen intensifying their engagements with residents, seeking feedback and support as the revised ward structure opens up new electoral calculations across the city’s civic body. With ward boundaries altered, the demographic makeup and voter profiles in certain areas have shifted, prompting politicians to adjust their outreach plans and campaign messaging ahead of the polls. The delimitation exercise has also prompted legal and political scrutiny, with some leaders questioning its fairness and transparency — a matter that has drawn public attention in the run-up to municipal elections. At the same time, others see the changes as an opportunity to strengthen their political presence in newly demarcated wards and build momentum among local voters. Civic and political analysts note that ward delimitations often influence campaign tactics and candidate selection, given that newly drawn boundaries can change the balance of support in key localities. In Panchkula, this has translated into increased discussions around electoral issues and heightened activity among both seasoned councillors and first-time contenders. As Panchkula prepares for its municipal polls, expected to be keenly contested, political parties are watching the delimitation developments closely and gearing up to mobilise support across all sections of the city’s electorate.
